Murphey, a veteran and former software engineer, recently retired from the Clark County Treasurer’s Office. He also worked for H&R Block and IGT. His stint on Season 4 of the 90 Day Fiancé spinoff in 2020 allowed him to connect with fans worldwide.
The family remembered Murphey’s fondness for cats and encouraged donations to The Animal Foundation in his memory. He is survived by two sisters and his cherished cat, Gamera.
On the show, Murphey pursued a relationship with Lana, whom he met on a Ukrainian dating site. They got engaged after meeting in person, but the relationship ended when she remained active on dating websites. Murphey later opened up about the breakup on 90 Day Diaries in 2022 and hinted at a connection with another Ukrainian woman, Olga.
